ABSTRACT: Early childhood education (ECE) significantly impacts the development of sharing behavior among young children, which is critical for their social and emotional development. This study investigates how ECE programs influence the propensity to share among children. The objectives are to (1) assess the development of sharing behavior in children attending ECE programs, (2) evaluate the effectiveness of ECE activities designed to promote sharing, and (3) examine the differences in sharing behavior between children who attend ECE programs and those who do not. A survey design was chosen to collect quantitative data on sharing behavior and qualitative insights from teachers and parents. A purposive sample of 150 children from preschools in Lagos State was selected. The case study focuses on preschools with well-established sharing-promoting activities. Findings revealed that children attending ECE programs demonstrated higher levels of sharing behavior compared to those who did not attend. Activities specifically designed to encourage sharing were particularly effective. Recommendations include incorporating more structured sharing activities into ECE curricula and training educators to emphasize the importance of sharing.
